Shelter of Peace (Sukkat Shalom)
Art as an Expression of Humanistic Jewish Identity
During the last Shavuot holiday, Batel Alfasi and Mor Peled – two Israeli artists from the Gaza envelope who experienced the horror of October 7th – met with two local artists from New York at the Manhattan JCC. Together, they created unique pieces of artwork that tell the story of torn communities and hope and reconnection.
Sukkat Shalom, in Hebrew, means “shelter of peace,” and the artworks focus, among other things, on the meaning of home, and what happens when home no longer exists, and one must move to a temporary home, just like a Sukkah.
The artworks for the sukkahs that Jewish communities will build are available for download and printing. You are invited to print the designs and set up your colorful sukkah with their help.
